White House Links New Jersey Voter Roll Error to ‘Absolute Necessity’ of SAVE America Act

A White House spokeswoman on Wednesday cited New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill’s announcement that 6,600 noncitizens were mistakenly registered to vote as evidence supporting the “absolute necessity” of the SAVE America Act.

The spokesperson stated: “Time and again, Democrats and their media allies have been proven wrong in claiming it is impossible for noncitizens to register to vote.”

According to the White House, the incident validates President Donald Trump’s push for stricter voter verification requirements. The spokeswoman added that American voters “deserve to have confidence that our elections are safe and secure,” and pledged that President Trump “will never stop fighting” to ensure this.

Governor Sherrill announced Tuesday that approximately 6,600 individuals had been erroneously listed as voters due to a software error in the state’s Motor Vehicle Commission system between June 2023 and June 2024. She noted that these registrations included voters of all political affiliations.

Sherrill explained that the error occurred when applicants answered “no” to being U.S. citizens during license applications but were still registered. She confirmed that fewer than 400 of these individuals cast ballots before the registrations were identified and removed.

The governor said she ordered an immediate investigation and directed officials to remove all affected records while replacing the vendor responsible for the faulty system. Sherrill stated there is no evidence the mistake changed any election results, but described the error as “appalling” and promised accountability.

President Trump recently disclosed that his administration identified hundreds of thousands of potential noncitizen voters nationwide, including 35,152 in New Jersey. In a statement, Trump emphasized: “Our purpose in disclosing this information is not to weaken confidence in elections, but to earn that confidence by confronting vulnerabilities and correcting them very, very quickly.”

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin criticized the delay, writing on social media: “Just ONE illegal vote cancels out the vote of a U.S. citizen. This should’ve been done a LONG time ago.”

House Republicans are advancing legislation to fast-track key provisions of the SAVE America Act, which would strengthen voter ID requirements and ensure only U.S. citizens participate in federal elections.
