Voters Embrace “Commonsense” Policies as Honeycutt Rejects Democratic Liberal Agenda

Republican congressional candidate Jenny Costa Honeycutt said Friday that voters are embracing “commonsense” policies and rejecting what she described as the Democratic Party’s increasingly liberal agenda after her victory in South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District GOP primary.

Honeycutt, a member of the Charleston County Council, told “Bianca Across the Nation” that her congressional campaign was focused on affordability, public safety, and policies reflecting most Americans’ priorities.

“Americans are looking for common sense,” she said.

“What you see the left doing is going radically far out of touch, and Americans are sick of that. They don’t want those policies.”

Honeycutt, who will face Democrat Nancy Lacore in November’s general election, stated voters seek leaders preserving principles that have shaped the country since its founding.

“They want what got us here over the last 250 years to take us into the next 250,” she said. “That’s freedom and common-sense policies.”

She argued such policies would address persistent economic concerns for many voters.

“The American people will help achieve the affordability they’re looking for that will sustain our law enforcement and protect us as we move forward,” she added.

Though she did not outline specific legislative proposals during the interview, Honeycutt emphasized her campaign’s focus on lowering family costs while supporting law enforcement.

Affordability remains a central issue in congressional races nationwide, with candidates from both parties prioritizing inflation, housing costs, and consumer prices. Public safety has also emerged as a key theme in competitive districts.

In a recent campaign ad, Honeycutt called for making President Donald Trump’s tax cuts permanent and outlined other priorities: “Make Trump tax cuts permanent and pass a balanced-budget amendment. Fix our infrastructure.”

Honeycutt’s district encompasses much of South Carolina’s Lowcountry along the Atlantic coast—including Charleston’s suburbs, Hilton Head Island, and Beaufort. The district has shifted between Republican and Democrat control in recent election cycles before returning to GOP dominance.
