Knicks Set to Make History: First NBA Team to Visit President Trump at White House

The New York Knicks are set to become the first NBA team to visit President Donald Trump at the White House following their 2026 championship victory. This historic event comes after the Knicks ended a 53-year title drought by capturing the NBA championship.

Team owner James Dolan has reportedly confirmed that the organization has accepted an invitation to the White House.

Dolan, who has maintained a long personal relationship with Trump spanning roughly three decades, played a central role in facilitating the visit.

Trump had already been closely involved with the Knicks’ postseason run, attending Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden — becoming the first sitting president to attend an NBA Finals game.

Following the team’s title-clinching victory over the San Antonio Spurs, Trump publicly congratulated the franchise and highlighted key players including Jalen Brunson and Mitchell Robinson.

The planned White House appearance would mark a notable contrast from recent championship teams. Last year’s NBA champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, did not make a White House visit, citing scheduling conflicts.

In prior years, some teams have also skipped traditional presidential visits amid political tensions or logistical issues.

If it goes as planned, the Knicks would become the first NBA team to complete a White House visit during Trump’s current term, underscoring both the team’s historic season and the president’s renewed engagement with major sporting events.
