Georgia Senate Race: Collins’ Victory Strategy Relies on Trump Base Mobilization

Former Pennsylvania Republican Senator Rick Santorum and pollster Jim McLaughlin stated that Representative Mike Collins of Georgia could defeat Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff in the November midterm elections if he successfully energizes Donald Trump’s base.

McLaughlin noted that while Georgia has become more moderate over recent years, it remains a non-liberal state. He criticized Ossoff for running as a moderate despite his liberal policy positions, comparing him to Democrats who ran as moderates in Virginia and New Jersey races where candidates like Abigail Spanberger and Mikie Sherrill were not moderate.

McLaughlin emphasized that Ossoff’s voting record with President Joe Biden and his threat to impeach Donald Trump if the Democratic Party gains control of Congress would alienate Georgia voters. “At the end of the day, he was a guy that was voting with Joe Biden 100% of the time,” McLaughlin said. “And oh, by the way, he says one of the first things he’s going to do if the Democrats get the Senate or the House is vote to impeach Donald Trump.”

Santorum acknowledged the challenge of defeating an incumbent in Georgia but expressed confidence in Collins’ ability to mobilize Republicans. He stated that Collins faces significant financial disadvantages due to Ossoff’s strong fundraising efforts and noted, “The good thing is… Mike has the ability to rally the base and get those Trump voters out who tend to vote in presidential elections.”
