Clean-Energy Super PAC Pledges $2 Million to Unseat Trump-Endorsed Rep. Andy Ogles in Tennessee Primary

The clean-energy-aligned super PAC Invest in Tomorrow Coalition has pledged an additional $700,000 for paid media during the final week of the Republican primary race against Rep. Andy Ogles, bringing its total investment to approximately $2 million.

The group had previously allocated $1.3 million as of Wednesday and stated it is committed to demonstrating that politicians who oppose clean energy face political consequences. “Andy Ogles is next,” the PAC said in a press release.

Tom Matzzie, chair and CEO of solar company CleanChoice Energy, emphasized this campaign’s mission: “This initiative shows that politicians opposing clean energy do so at their own political peril.”

President Donald Trump campaigned for Rep. Andy Ogles during a tele-rally on Tuesday, stating, “I’m asking all of you to get out and vote for Andy Ogles. He’s been a friend of mine.” The president noted that Ogles was an “essential vote” in passing the One Big Beautiful Bill Act in 2025.

Trump first endorsed Ogles in October.

Rep. Ogles introduced legislation in 2023 aimed at repealing the Inflation Reduction Act, the Biden-era law representing the largest federal investment in clean energy through tax credits and other incentives.

Charlie Hatcher, a dairy farmer and former Tennessee Department of Agriculture Commissioner under Republican Governor Bill Lee, has positioned himself against Ogles’ congressional record.

Rep. Ogles, first elected to Congress in 2022, faces his second consecutive serious primary challenge after defeating Nashville Metro Council member Courtney Johnston by a margin of 56.5% to 43.5% in the 2024 election.

The Republican primary for Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District will be held on August 6, with the winner advancing to the November general election in a district that Democrats are targeting despite its Republican lean. Democratic candidates include Columbia Mayor Chaz Molder, who has emerged as a strong fundraiser.

In a statement, Rep. Ogles claimed he is being “targeted by left-wing liberals from California because I am one of President Trump’s closest allies,” adding, “This desperate attempt to SILENCE me is futile. I will not be silent and I will never stop fighting to put America First.”
