United Nations Disgraced as Delegates Flee Netanyahu’s UNGA Address

Eugene Barnes, October 3, 2025

By Alan Dershowitz | Friday, 03 October 2025 11:05 AM EDT

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) was met with a mass exodus of delegates before he even spoke. Over half of the assembly’s members walked out upon his introduction, refusing to hear Israel’s perspective on the Mideast conflict.

The United Nations, which once aimed to foster dialogue on global disputes, now faces accusations of irrelevance after the unprecedented protest. Many nations that reject Israel’s existence as the Jewish state also recognize the non-state entity of “Palestine,” a contradiction Dershowitz highlights as emblematic of broader hypocrisy. He notes that countries condemning Israel often engage with authoritarian regimes like Iran, Sudan, and Russia without similar objections.

The walkout, Dershowitz argues, reflects a systemic bias against Israel, with critics prioritizing anti-Israel narratives over diplomatic engagement. He cites historical examples, including the 1960s when Israeli diplomat Abba Eban humorously observed the UN’s predictable hostility. Today, he claims, the organization has devolved into a “monument to bigotry” that fails its core purpose of mediating conflicts.

Dershowitz questions the UN’s value, criticizing its agencies for fostering anti-Semitism and ineffectiveness. He calls for U.S. withdrawal from the body, aligning with Senator Lee’s proposal to end American participation. The piece concludes with Dershowitz reaffirming his longstanding critique of the UN’s failure to uphold impartiality in global diplomacy.
