U.S. Capture of Venezuelan Leader Could Reshape Latino Politics and U.S. Electoral Landscape

Stella Green, January 3, 2026

On Saturday, presidential strategist Dick Morris indicated that the United States’ capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro could trigger significant domestic political repercussions, particularly within the Latino community in the United States.

The action is anticipated to resonate powerfully with Venezuelan Americans and other Caribbean and South American communities opposing the Maduro regime, potentially elevating President Donald Trump’s position among Latino voters.

Morris described the development as evidence that foreign policy and domestic matters are now intrinsically linked across the Western Hemisphere.

He also highlighted a pending Supreme Court decision regarding race-based congressional districts, warning that such a ruling could declare these districts unconstitutional. This would place at least 25 Democratic-held seats — currently structured as majority-minority districts — at risk, possibly altering Congress’s balance of power.

Additionally, Morris cautioned Democrats against criticizing the capture of Maduro, noting it might alienate politically engaged Venezuelan and South American voters. He further stated that removing Maduro could destabilize Cuba’s communist government, which heavily relies on Venezuelan oil, calling the outcome a “two-fer” in weakening authoritarian regimes in both nations.
