Trump’s Strike on Iran and Death of Khamenei Could Define Second Term and Secure Republican Landslide, Former Advisor Claims

Stella Green, February 28, 2026

Former presidential adviser Dick Morris stated Saturday that President Donald Trump’s military strikes against Iran and the killing of its leader Ali Khamenei would mark “probably the most significant day” of Trump’s second term and could result in Republicans taking control of November’s midterm elections.

In an interview, Morris compared the impact of Trump’s actions to Barack Obama’s decision to kill Osama bin Laden, which he described as Obama’s “crowning achievement.” Morris claimed that the killing of Khamenei is “at least as important and probably more so” than bin Laden’s death. He emphasized that Trump “pulled the trigger” and cooperated with Israel in carrying out the strikes.

“Democrats have an instinct for suicide,” Morris said, criticizing their opposition to the operation. “Their criticism of ICE falls into that category,” he added.

Morris warned that continued Democratic resistance could backfire: “If Democrats are foolish enough to oppose him or criticize him, they’ll just keep the issue alive—and it will really help Trump in the long term.” He also stated that the killing of Khamenei is “absolutely the most important thing the United States has done in decades,” providing regional stability and ending the war on terror.
