Trump Warns of Catastrophe if Communist Zohran Mamdani Wins NYC Mayor Race

President Donald Trump expressed strong opposition to democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani’s potential victory in the New York City mayoral race, calling him a “Communist” and warning of dire consequences for the city. In a Truth Social post, Trump stated it was “highly unlikely” he would allocate federal funds beyond the minimum required if Mamdani were elected.

“You can’t have success or survival with a Communist at the helm,” Trump wrote. “New York City will be a Complete and Total Economic and Social Disaster under Mamdani. His principles have been tested for over a thousand years, and never once have they been successful.”

Trump criticized Mamdani’s record as an Assemblyman, describing him as “ranked at the bottom of the class” and claiming he lacked the capacity to restore the city’s former glory. He also suggested that voting for independent candidate Andrew Cuomo or Republican Curtis Sliwa effectively supported Mamdani, urging voters to prioritize stopping him over personal preferences.

Mamdani, who leads in the race ahead of Tuesday’s election, has campaigned on policies including free city buses, rent freezes, and universal childcare. His platform also emphasizes expanded protections for immigrants, LGBTQ New Yorkers, and small businesses. Endorsements from progressive figures such as Sen. Bernie Sanders, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries have bolstered his momentum.

Mamdani defeated Cuomo in the June Democratic Party primary, setting the stage for a contentious general election.
