Trump Unveils Ambitious Economic Plan and Military Prowess in State of the Union Address

Stella Green, February 24, 2026

President Donald Trump will highlight the administration’s achievements over the past year during his State of the Union address on Tuesday night, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated. The speech will also outline a “very ambitious agenda” aimed at bolstering American workers.

Leavitt described the address as a celebration of “250 years of our nation’s independence and excellence,” emphasizing stories of everyday Americans who have benefited from Trump’s policies. She noted that the president would share “tear-jerking stories of American heroes, past and present.”

The speech will focus heavily on economic recovery, with Leavitt pointing to mortgage rates dipping below 6%—the first time since 2022—as a key achievement. She contrasted this with rates exceeding 8% under former President Joe Biden and noted that during Trump’s first term, mortgage rates fell to record lows of 2.65%.

Leavitt also detailed tax proposals including no taxation of tips, overtime pay, and Social Security contributions, citing the example of a Pennsylvania waitress and her husband who could save thousands under these measures.

Trump is expected to defend his aggressive immigration policies, call for increased military funding, and address tensions with Iran and Venezuela. Leavitt confirmed the president will “proudly and rightfully say that the United States military is the strongest and most lethal fighting force in the world.” She referenced Operation Midnight Hammer as an initiative that “obliterated Iran’s nuclear facilities,” while stressing Trump prefers diplomacy but remains “willing to use the lethal force of the United States military if necessary.”

Leavitt criticized Democrats for delaying funding for key agencies, including the Coast Guard and Federal Emergency Management Agency, which she argued has harmed public safety efforts. She contended such delays are “completely avoidable” with Democratic cooperation.

While some Democrats have signaled plans to boycott the address, Leavitt maintained that Trump will present a confident vision of America returning to strength and prosperity under Republican leadership.
