Trump Launches Virulent Attack on Late-Night Host Seth Meyers Over “Worst” Performance

President Donald Trump targeted Seth Meyers over the weekend, launching a blistering social media critique of the comedian and reigniting his longstanding conflict with late-night television. In a post on Truth Social, Trump labeled Meyers “the least talented person to ‘perform’ live in the history of television,” adding, “He may be the WORST to perform, live or otherwise.”
Trump accused Meyers of dedicating an entire show to discussing “electric catapults on aircraft carriers,” referencing a recent segment on “Late Night.” He demanded, “Why does NBC waste its time and money on a guy like this??? – NO TALENT, NO RATINGS, 100% ANTI TRUMP, WHICH IS PROBABLY ILLEGAL!!!”
The criticism followed Meyers’ jokes about Trump’s remarks during a speech aboard the USS George Washington, where the president questioned the Navy’s electromagnetic catapults. Trump reiterated his skepticism, claiming they could fail if exposed to water, and vowed to sign an executive order mandating steam-powered catapults for future carriers.
On “Late Night,” Meyers mocked Trump’s fixation on the topic, quipping, “Guy spends more time thinking about catapults than Wile E. Coyote.” The dispute mirrors Trump’s earlier clashes with late-night hosts, including his praise for CBS’ cancellation of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and support for ABC’s six-day suspension of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in September after Kimmel criticized the Republican response to the killing of conservative figure Charlie Kirk.
Trump had previously condemned Kimmel as “ZERO talent” and “WORSE RATINGS than even Colbert, if that’s possible,” while Kimmel defended his remarks, stating they were never intended to “make light of the murder of a young man.”
