Trump Appoints Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as U.S. Special Envoy to Greenland Amid Global Tensions

Talk of a potential U.S. takeover of Greenland has been quiet for months, but President Donald Trump made a surprise announcement Sunday night amid aggressive actions in the Caribbean and stalled peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.

The president declared that he has appointed Jeff Landry, Louisiana’s governor, as the United States Special Envoy to Greenland. In his statement, Trump emphasized that Landry “understands how essential Greenland is to our National Security” and will “strongly advance our Country’s Interests for the Safety, Security, and Survival of our Allies, and indeed, the World.”
