Trump Announces Complete Termination of ‘Autopen’ Documents Signed Under Biden

Stella Green, December 2, 2025

Former President Donald Trump issued a sharp statement on Tuesday, following up on recent claims regarding documents signed by the outgoing administration he previously targeted. In a post referencing his “Wake Up America Weekend” initiative and delivered through social media, Trump declared that any official papers attributed to Joseph R. Biden Jr., specifically those handled via autopen without direct presidential involvement or approval, are now officially nullified.

Trump’s remarks directly contested an interpretation of executive power derived from a 2005 Justice Department memo regarding the use of the autopen device. That document suggested a president could delegate signing authority to others, including machines, provided they authorized it personally. However, Trump insisted that documents created under former President Biden solely through autopen technology—which he claimed occurred without sufficient presidential oversight—lack legitimacy.

The newly released “Wake Up America Weekend” declaration reiterated the administration’s stance against the manner in which executive actions were executed during its predecessor’s final months and days in office. Chapman II, a noted legal expert who backed Trump’s position Sunday, stressed that the signature alone isn’t enough to validate presidential authority if there was no substantive approval or direction from Biden himself.

“This is about whether the president personally directed it,” Chapman emphasized Tuesday. He pointedly suggested that Biden’s apparent disengagement during periods when staff managed the device—particularly during times of illness or travel—undermines any claim by his administration to the contrary. The declaration was framed as an immediate warning against relying on such documents for legal purposes.

Trump wrote: “Anyone receiving ‘Pardons,’ ‘Commutations,’ or any other Legal Document so signed, please be advised that said Document has been fully and completely terminated, and is of no Legal effect.”

This move follows months of public frustration from the Trump campaign over what they termed a lack of accountability during Biden’s presidency. The focus specifically on autopen-signed documents represents an intensification of attacks against the legitimacy of the outgoing administration’s actions under its final leadership.
