Trump Accuses Minnesota Democrats of Fueling ‘Anarchist’ Unrest to Hide $19 Billion Fraud

Stella Green, January 13, 2026

President Donald Trump on Tuesday defended Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Minnesota, accusing local Democrats of supporting “anarchists and professional agitators” to divert attention from alleged government fraud totaling $19 billion.

In a Truth Social post, Trump claimed ICE officers are targeting dangerous criminals in communities, blaming former President Joe Biden’s “HORRIBLE Open Border Policy” for allowing violent offenders into the country illegally. He questioned whether Minnesota residents want neighborhoods filled with “thousands of already convicted murderers, drug dealers and addicts, rapists, violent released and escaped prisoners, dangerous people from foreign mental institutions and insane asylums.”

Trump asserted that crime decreases when ICE ramps up enforcement, citing Chicago as an example: “Every place we go, crime comes down. Thousands of Criminals were removed!”

The president also criticized Minnesota Democrats for exploiting recent unrest in the Twin Cities to shield their administration from scrutiny over the state’s alleged financial misconduct.

Minnesota, Minneapolis, and St. Paul have filed a lawsuit against federal authorities seeking to block or limit an expanded immigration enforcement operation. State Attorney General Keith Ellison accused federal officials of violating First Amendment protections and constitutional rights, demanding a temporary restraining order.

The legal action follows the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis last month, when she was shot by a federal officer during a confrontation while driving her SUV. Protests and vigils have since been held nationwide, with activists sharing videos of tense encounters involving federal agents, including instances where tear gas was used to disperse crowds.

The Department of Homeland Security has deployed more than 2,000 immigration officers into Minnesota and reported over 2,000 arrests since December, calling it the largest enforcement operation in its history. DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin defended the actions, stating: “President Trump’s job is to protect the American people and enforce the law.”

As the legal battle unfolds, the issue has become a flashpoint between the Trump administration’s border security agenda and Democrat-led states resisting federal immigration enforcement.
