Trump Accuses JPMorgan Chase & Co. of Illegally Withholding Banking Services After January 6 Stella Green, January 17, 2026 By Solange Reyner | Saturday, January 17, 2026 President Donald Trump on Saturday announced he would sue JPMorgan Chase & Co. for “incorrectly and inappropriately DEBANKING” him following the January 6th events. Trump has accused both JPMorgan and Bank of America of denying banking services to him due to his political stances and the January 6, 2021 protests. JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon denied Trump was debanked for political reasons, stating banks operate under legal obligations and manage risk rather than politics. The president made the statement on Truth Social following reports claiming he offered Dimon the position of chairman of the Federal Reserve. Trump dismissed the reports as “fake news,” asserting, “This statement is totally untrue, there was never such an offer.” He added, “Why wouldn’t the report call me to ask whether or not such an offer was made? I would have very quickly told them, ‘NO,’ and that would have been the end of the story.” Dimon recently indicated he would consider a Treasury Secretary role if approached. “I would take the call, consider it, and think about why and what they want,” Dimon stated at a Chamber of Commerce event. “But I’ve been my own boss for pretty much 25 years, and I like it that way.” Trump clarified he would not offer the position to Dimon. “Scott Bessent is doing a fantastic job, A SUPERSTAR — Why would I give it to Jamie? No such offer was made there, or even thought of, either. The report ought to do better ‘fact checking,’ or its already strained credibility will continue to DIVE,” he added. Trump last year signed an executive order ensuring federal regulators do not promote policies that allow financial institutions to deny or restrict services based on political beliefs, religious beliefs, or lawful business activities, securing fair access to banking for all Americans.
