Tim Burchett Vows to Expose “Trillion-Dollar Duplication” in Government Spending

Stella Green, January 27, 2026

Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., chair of the Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE), has pledged to “start turning some stones over” and “raise hell” as he addresses wasteful spending by Congress.

In a recent interview with conservative media commentator Benny Johnson, Burchett stated that his subcommittee would highlight “a trillion dollars in duplication and waste,” causing significant discomfort among those responsible for such expenditures.

Burchett expressed frustration with the lack of accountability within Congress, saying, “We as elected officials don’t have the guts and the wherewithal.” He emphasized that he would no longer rely on internal congressional channels but instead turn directly to the public, a move he described as necessary given the current state of government spending.

The representative criticized the inclusion of unnecessary provisions in federal legislation, including “transgender stuff” that Burchett claimed was added due to Congress’s unwillingness to confront such issues head-on. He argued that Americans would be ashamed of the excessive spending practices currently allowed within government programs.

Burchett further stated that some members of Congress, when they become frustrated with ongoing debates, should “get your a home and sit on the couch and let somebody else do it.” He reiterated his commitment to eliminating reckless spending, reducing bureaucratic red tape, and investigating fraud and abuse in federal agencies.
