The Democratic Party’s Left-Wing Takeover: Why John Fetterman Stands Alone

Stella Green, February 17, 2026

Decades ago, the Democratic Party was led by presidents Harry Truman and John F. Kennedy, who were proud of their country and its citizens.

These leaders would never have embarked on a foreign policy “apology tour,” as did President Barack Obama.

Truman or Kennedy would never have allowed millions of illegal immigrants to invade the nation, as did Joe Biden.

In the 1980s, moderate congressional Democrats known as the “blue dogs” helped President Ronald Reagan pass historic tax cuts that spurred economic growth and exorcised the “malaise” described by former Democratic President Jimmy Carter.

In the 1990s, Democrat President Bill Clinton successfully worked with then-U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich to enact welfare reform, capital gains tax cuts, and four consecutive years of budget surpluses.

Today, the days of collaborative Democrats working with Republicans on legislation have ended. One major reason is that the Democratic Party has become radicalized by the far left.

If a candidate in 2028 were Truman, Kennedy, or Bill Clinton, they would have no chance of winning the Democratic presidential nomination.

The radicalization began with Al Gore’s 2000 presidential campaign, which was consumed by his “global warming” hysteria.

It continued with Barack Obama’s 2008 nomination. Democrats selected Obama despite his limited experience as a “community organizer” and less than three years in the U.S. Senate.

Obama was nominated because he was young, gave great speeches, and as an African American, allowed Democrats to play the race card.

Even though Obama was a disaster as president, the Democrats never returned to the ideological center.

Every presidential nominee since then—Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris—has been a devout adherent of the left wing.

The far left has captured the Democratic Party. Today’s leading candidates for the 2028 nomination, including Governor Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.), former Vice President Kamala Harris, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and U.S. Representative Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), are all left-wing.

The Democratic Party is now obsessed with one goal: stopping President Donald Trump and his agenda. Almost all leading Democrats suffer from “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS).

Congressional Democrats will likely impeach Trump for the third time.

Prominent Democrats, such as Kentucky Governor Andy Beshar (D-Ky.), repeatedly claim that President Trump is placing American democracy in jeopardy.

Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) declared she is working nonstop to run for a U.S. Senate seat because “if I go to sleep, democracy may very well die.”

Powerful Democrats like U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) use extreme language to criticize Trump and his Republican allies.

In a recent interview, Senator Schumer claimed that Republicans “don’t want poor people to vote. They don’t want people of color to vote.”

This is complete nonsense and an outrageous lie—typical of how Democrats characterize Trump and the GOP.

Amid this onslaught, U.S. Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) stands as the only leading Democrat with common sense, a moderate political viewpoint, and free from TDS.

Very recently, Fetterman was the lone Democrat in the Senate to support funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Despite his support, the bill failed and DHS agencies were shut down.

Fetterman criticized fellow Democrats for using “sexist” terms to criticize DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. He also admitted that the country was “failing on the border” during the Biden administration.

Fetterman is incredibly supportive of Israel and has been vocal in criticizing his own party.

In a recent interview, Fetterman noted there is “a rot in my party, standing with pro-Hamas people.” He specifically blasted Ocasio-Cortez for aligning with Turkish American commentator Hasan Piker, known for his socialist and “pro-Hamas” views.

Fetterman also criticized Democrats’ hypocrisy on the filibuster. As he said, Democrats wanted to “nuke the filibuster” during the Biden administration but “now we love the filibuster.”

Fetterman recommended that Democrats “humble themselves and remind people” of their new position.

Fetterman supports voter identification. He agrees with 84% of Americans who believe voters should provide photo identification (ID). According to Fetterman, “It’s not a radical idea for regular Americans to show your ID to vote, and absolutely those things are not Jim Crow or anything.”

While the senator’s fellow Democrats claim that voter ID is racist, Fetterman notes it is required in many states and 84% of Americans have no problem with it.
