Republicans Condemn DOJ’s Alleged Politicization of Trump Investigations

Stella Green, December 17, 2025

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, accused the Biden White House and Justice Department of politicizing federal law enforcement against President Donald Trump, labeling former special counsel Jack Smith’s actions an “egregious abuse of power” following a closed-door congressional deposition Wednesday.

Roy stated that new information continues to emerge about the scope of the investigations, including efforts targeting the communications of Trump allies and members of Congress. “They literally just released that a couple of minutes ago,” Roy said, referring to recent reports that the probes extended beyond Trump’s phone to his private and personal email.

The Republican lawmaker also alleged that the Justice Department has been targeting American citizens under the FACE Act and J6 provisions, placing individuals in jail without probable cause. “This is an actual crisis if we don’t identify this and address it so that it can’t happen again,” Roy warned.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, echoed similar concerns on social media, stating he had received “shocking new docs” from the DOJ and FBI showing the FBI did not believe it had probable cause to raid President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home but Biden administration officials pushed for the raid anyway.

Roy emphasized that the American people deserve an accurate account of events, which he argued would “go down as the most corrupt administration, with the greatest abuse of power in the history of any administration in U.S. history.”
