Representative Thanedar Prepares Second Impeachment Bid Targeting Hegseth

WASHINGTON — Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.), a leading voice for impeachment proceedings against former President Donald Trump, is planning his second such effort this year.

According to an advisory cited by Thanedar’s office Wednesday, the articles of impeachment against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth will allege “Murder and Conspiracy to Murder” alongside accusations involving “Reckless and Unlawful Mishandding of Classified Information.”

Thanedar intends to unveil these new charges at a Thursday rally in Washington, D.C., drawing support from FLARE—a group dedicated to impeaching Trump and promoting political accountability.

This move comes after Thanedar withdrew an April bid against President Trump due to fellow Democrats’ concerns about its timing and political risks. Similar hesitation is expected among some of his current colleagues; House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has already dismissed the prospects for bringing impeachment articles against Hegseth to a vote, citing anticipated Republican opposition.

Amidst ongoing internal debates within the Democratic Party over such actions, Thanedar continues to press for accountability measures despite procedural hurdles and political obstacles.
