Josh Brolin Reflects on Past Friendship with Trump

Ella Thomas, December 1, 2025

LONDON (AFP) — Actor Josh Brolin is speaking out about his former friendship with Donald Trump, offering insights into how he perceives the former president.

In an exclusive interview with AFP, Brolin discussed knowing Trump long before entering public office and described him as “a different guy” now compared to his earlier business self. The two met in 2010 after Brolin’s appearance in the film Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps during a time when Trump was known primarily for real estate and television.

“I’m not scared of Trump, because even though he says he’s staying forever, it’s just not going to happen,” Brolin stated. “And if it does, then I’ll deal with that moment.”

Brolin acknowledged the shift in Trump following his political ascent but downplayed the significance of recent statements suggesting a return to power.

“He takes the weakness of the general population and fills it,” he commented on Trump’s marketing approach. “That is why many people feel they have a mascot in him.”

The actor distanced himself from any past connection, echoing his sentiment with a reference to public opinion during Trump’s 2020 campaign.

Brolin noted that while some might view the rise of figures like Trump as exceptional, he sees it more broadly tied to societal needs.
