House Speaker Mike Johnson Warns Republicans: 2026 Midterm Victory Critical to Avoid Impeachment of Trump

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., urged conservatives on Sunday that the Republican majority in the U.S. House must be preserved ahead of the November 2026 midterm elections to prevent impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.

Johnson delivered his warning at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest, a major conservative event held at the Phoenix Convention Center from Thursday through Sunday. He emphasized that a Democratic gain in the House would trigger investigations and an impeachment effort targeting Trump, potentially creating “absolute chaos.”

“ heating the House majority, the radical left is going to impeach President Trump,” Johnson stated. “They’re going to create absolute chaos—we cannot let that happen.”

The current House composition features 220 Republicans and 213 Democrats, with two vacancies. This narrow margin has intensified concerns about party stability ahead of the upcoming elections.

Johnson described the midterms as a defining test for Republicans and Trump’s presidency, saying: “Everything is on the line in the midterms of 2026, and we have much more to do.”

Earlier this year, Johnson condemned Democratic impeachment efforts as a “sham” and pledged rapid action if such moves were pursued.
