House Oversight Committee Signals Testimony for Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick in Epstein Probe

Stella Green, February 26, 2026

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., stated Thursday that it is “very possible” the committee’s ongoing investigation into Jeffrey Epstein could result in Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick being subpoenaed for testimony.

Comer made the remarks during depositions of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Chappaqua, New York. Lutnick recently acknowledged visiting Epstein’s private island, Little Saint James, with his family in 2012 — a disclosure that contradicts his previous assertion that he had cut ties with Epstein after 2005.

Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., indicated she would question Clinton about Lutnick during the proceedings. “We’ve already brought in Alex Acosta and Bill Barr for depositions,” Comer said. “That’s two Republicans in the Trump administration — this isn’t just about Democrats.”

During a separate Senate Appropriations subcommittee hearing, Lutnick described his 2012 visit as a family vacation with his wife and children. Hillary Clinton told House lawmakers Thursday that she had no knowledge of Epstein’s crimes or Ghislaine Maxwell but confirmed interactions with Maxwell at Clinton Foundation events.
