House Moves to Hold Bill and Hillary Clinton in Contempt Over Epstein Probe Stella Green, January 15, 2026 House investigators are advancing toward holding former President Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary Clinton, in contempt of Congress after both refused to appear for depositions tied to the committee’s Jeffrey Epstein-related inquiry. Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., a member of the House Oversight Committee, stated on Thursday that committee members from both parties had approved the witness list and that Democrats as well as Republicans supported issuing subpoenas. Biggs noted that the committee spent six months negotiating with the Clintons’ attorneys and adjusted scheduling to accommodate their anticipated testimony. However, after the Clintons did not appear for the scheduled depositions despite the committee’s efforts, they sent what Biggs described as a “little paper” containing information about the Epstein case. “The next step would be a contempt vote followed by a referral to the Justice Department,” Biggs said. Biggs also explained that the committee is focused on questioning Hillary Clinton regarding alleged connections between her and Jeffrey Epstein through the Clinton Foundation. “Jeffrey Epstein claimed he helped set up the Clinton Foundation,” Biggs stated, adding that lawmakers aim to determine “what the relationship really was between Bill, Hillary, and Jeffrey Epstein.” When asked whether search warrants for records could be pursued, Biggs indicated that the Justice Department has protocols allowing investigators to seek access to documents as part of this investigation.
