House Judiciary Chairman Subpoenas Former Special Counsel Jack Smith

Stella Green, December 3, 2025

WASHINGTON (Newsmax) — House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan has escalated the committee’s investigation related to former special counsel Jack Smith, issuing a subpoena for him to appear for a closed-door deposition scheduled December 17. This move specifically pertains to Smith’s leadings of the investigations into former President Donald Trump and several co-defendants.

The letter sent by the committee on Wednesday requested confirmation from Smith regarding his availability for testimony and an order for him to provide documents by December 12 at the latest. Chairman Jordan stated that the Committee acts under its authority via House Rule X, which addresses oversight of Justice Department operations and potential legislative reforms concerning special counsel investigations.

Smith’s attorneys at Covington & Burling were addressed in the letter, which included both a testimonial subpoena and one for documents.
