Homan Claims Trump’s Border Surge Slashed Unlawful Activity in Minnesota Stella Green, February 12, 2026 By Michael Katz | February 12, 2026 Tom Homan, President Donald Trump’s point man on deportations and border security, declared Thursday that Operation Metro Surge in Minnesota has delivered significant public safety gains. In a statement on social media, Homan said federal efforts have “deescalated the intense, unlawful, and dangerous situation” that had developed in the state. He reported that Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s target list for illegal aliens was “significantly reduced,” with many public safety threats removed from communities. The operation, which deployed more than 3,000 federal immigration personnel to Minnesota, concluded after President Trump agreed to wind it down. Homan highlighted an “unprecedented level of coordination” between ICE and local counties that enabled authorities to take custody of criminal illegal aliens in secure settings. He also noted a decline in “unlawful agitator activity,” stating state and local law enforcement had stepped up to address such incidents. Homan dismissed attempts by the far left and extreme groups to spin the results as “the facts.” “Minnesota communities are safer as a result,” he wrote, adding that the operation has been led by dedicated ICE and CBP personnel. Homan assumed command of Operation Metro Surge last month after replacing U.S. Border Patrol Chief Greg Bovino. He said federal agents will continue enforcement operations in other locations nationwide. The Department of Homeland Security reported over 4,000 illegal aliens with violent criminal records were arrested since the operation began on December 1.
