Evan Dando Hospitalized After Alleged Explicit Video Sending Spree

Evan Dando, frontman of The Lemonheads, has been admitted to a hospital for mental health treatment following allegations that he sent unsolicited explicit videos to fans.

The musician’s wife, Antonia Teixeira, described his condition as deteriorating in recent weeks. She stated that during their five-year relationship, Dando struggled with heavy drinking and prescription drug abuse.

Teixeira detailed the circumstances surrounding his hospitalization in an interview with Billboard. She recalled that the couple traveled from their home in Sao Paulo to New York City earlier this year for a scheduled appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on January 20. After the show, the band went to Washington, D.C., to record a session for NPR’s Tiny Desk series.

However, Teixeira said that during this period, Dando became unstable and sent explicit videos to several women on X. “That day, he was totally out of his mind,” she explained. “So out of his mind, that the Tiny Desk won’t be aired.”

According to her account, Dando consumed large amounts of Adderall, THC, and mushrooms at one time, which led to the incident. She revealed that she initially believed the video had been sent by mistake but later discovered it was intentional. “From what I’m looking [at] now, it wasn’t … He doesn’t remember what he did. He was in a mental meltdown,” Teixeira said.

Dando, who felt “very embarrassed” once aware of his actions, is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Teixeira stated that she will file for divorce if Dando does not complete at least 30 days of treatment. She described the episode as “self-sabotage,” noting that he had recently completed an album and was preparing for a summer tour, which has been canceled. Teixeira expressed hope for his recovery: “I feel like this is a second phase of his healing… It’s him actually taking into his own hands, his responsibilities, the consequences, and not blaming other people and just trying to be better because he wants to be better himself.”
