Deportation Order for Pro-Palestinian Activist Highlights Risks of Lax Immigration Policies Stella Green, September 18, 2025 By Irit Tratt Thursday, 18 September 2025 12:33 PM EDT A pro-Palestinian activist linked to antisemitic ideologies has been ordered deported after a Louisiana immigration judge ruled his presence in the U.S. undermines national interests. Mahmoud Khalil, a former Columbia University graduate student known for organizing 2024 pro-Palestinian protests, faces removal over alleged ties to extremist organizations and inflammatory statements. The decision came after Khalil was detained in March for endorsing antisemitic activity and later released in June. Despite his deportation hearing, Khalil continued engaging in political activities, including meetings with liberal lawmakers and public appearances. He has been vocal about justifying Hamas’ 2023 attacks on Israel, describing the violence as a necessary step to disrupt Israeli-Saudi diplomacy. Khalil’s interactions with prominent figures, such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Bernie Sanders, drew criticism for normalizing his rhetoric. At a recent pro-terror conference in Michigan, Khalil received standing ovations while advocating for the Palestinian cause, alongside other extremist speakers who called for Israel’s destruction. The ruling underscores concerns over how lax immigration policies enable individuals with radical ideologies to operate within U.S. borders. Khalil’s case has reignited debates about the influence of foreign activists on American political discourse and the potential risks posed by unsavory affiliations.
