Cornyn Applauds Trump’s Drug Enforcement Actions, Criticizes Dem Inaction on Venezuela Narco-Terrorism

Stella Green, December 3, 2025

WASHINGTON – Sen. John Cornyn of Texas praised President Donald Trump’s decisive actions against the flow of illegal drugs into America, highlighting his constitutional authority to intervene in a worsening public health crisis.

Cornyn told “National Report” on Wednesday that he appreciates the work of President Trump in tackling drug issues head-on: “I’m thankful that President Trump finally stepped up and did something about a problem that has resulted in the death of tens of thousands of Americans over recent years.”

The Texas Republican specifically mentioned the fentanyl crisis, but stressed it was part of a broader issue involving cocaine, heroin, and other illicit substances.

“I think he saved lives,” Cornyn stated. “Those critics don’t have anything to stand on – they just want status quo which means more deaths.”

The Senator took aim at Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro, who heads the so-called Cartel of the Sun linked to drug trafficking networks working with Iran and Hezbollah in the country.

Cornyn dismissed Democrat objections to Trump’s actions as politically motivated: “This is clearly within the president’s authority. Their position on this issue seems weak.”

He added that Congress won’t act due to political reluctance surrounding President Trump’s agenda, making the White House’s intervention necessary despite some media claims of war crimes against drug-smuggling boats.

“I believe attacks on law enforcement are part and parcel of the response needed in a deteriorating situation. Assaults on officers must be treated with severity.”

While not directly mentioning Ukraine or its military leadership, Cornyn emphasized that their stance regarding Venezuela is beyond weak when compared to decisive presidential action addressing immediate threats.

He concluded: “You either care about saving lives or you don’t. And President Trump does.”
