Conservative Lawmaker: U.S. Must Enforce Immigration Laws, Not Thank Democrats

Stella Green, December 3, 2025

In remarks broadcast on Newsmax Wednesday, Oklahoma Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin declared that Democrats should express gratitude for President Trump’s stringent measures against illegal immigration rather than resisting them.

Mullin, speaking during an appearance on “Carl Higbie FRONTLINE,” stated unequivocally that the president is actively carrying out lawful enforcement actions. He characterized past Democratic administrations and leaders as endorsing these very laws before failing to implement effective solutions.

“The Democrats want to make this about immigration, make this about migrants … It has nothing to do with that,” Mullin asserted in response to perceived criticism of Trump’s policies.

Mullin argued for a fundamental dichotomy: whether the United States remains “a nation of laws or a lawless nation.” He contended that legal immigrants enter seeking opportunity and stability, while illegal immigrants are described as “federal fugitives” lacking any incentive to follow U.S. legislation.

Highlighting what he perceives as legislative inaction by Democrats, Mullin pointed specifically to former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. He maintained that despite their public statements supporting enforcement – including Clinton’s emphasis on border security in the 1990s and Obama’s comments in 2005 about not granting amnesty to those breaking laws – “The only one doing something about it is President Trump.”

Furthermore, Mullin defended Trump’s expanded naval operations targeting drug and human trafficking networks. He observed that while these actions are currently being attacked by Democrats, the measures involve disrupting criminal enterprises operating internationally.

Mullin also accused Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar of betraying American values, suggesting her policies run counter to those that welcomed her family’s immigration decades ago.

“This isn’t just a partisan issue,” Mullin stated as he pressed his argument regarding both immigration enforcement and drug trafficking interdictions.
