Blagojevich: Democrats Are Funding ‘Cynical’ Protests That Threaten Lives by Undermining Immigration Law

Stella Green, January 31, 2026

Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has accused Democrats of organizing protests that undermine immigration enforcement through unlawful tactics.

Blagojevich stated these demonstrations are “funded by billionaires from other countries” and driven by the New Democratic Party agenda. He said this agenda encourages individuals to “break the law, obstruct justice, stand in the way of law enforcement in their efforts to enforce the law.”

The former governor described the protests as not an “organic thing that’s happening,” but rather “cynical” and “political,” adding they are “causing people to lose their lives.”

Blagojevich also criticized sanctuary city policies, arguing that people come to the United States illegally because they believe they will be shielded. He said: “Democrats invited them in with sanctuary cities, by basically saying to people in other countries, ‘Come into America, our borders mean nothing, and we’ll protect you when the law comes down and wants to enforce itself against you.'”

He responded to Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner’s claim that federal immigration authorities are “a small bunch of wannabe Nazis,” stating: “If you’re an ordinary citizen and the chief law enforcement officer in Philadelphia, the prosecutor himself is telling you to go hunt down law enforcement officers? I mean, you feel like you can do it legally.”

Blagojevich further noted that when such actions result in injuries or deaths, “the blood is on the hands of people like that prosecutor in Philadelphia, Krasner, and others.” He compared these tactics to those used by communists in Russia to overthrow their government.

“Not since the Civil War have we seen our country in a position like this,” Blagojevich said. “We haven’t quite gotten to that place yet, but we’re not that far away.”

The former governor also stated that Democrats have centered their strategy on opposing President Donald Trump, offering citizens nothing but “this sort of stuff” and everything being anti-Trump.

Blagojevich praised the Trump administration’s recent actions, including sending Tom Homan to Minneapolis and requiring him to report directly to the president. He called these steps “real leadership.”

Yet he predicted the dispute will continue: “My prediction is… they’re going to continue to do what they’re doing and try to obstruct President Trump’s efforts to deport violent criminals.”
