Blackburn Targets Biden Over Venezuela Tweet Amid Maduro Capture

Stella Green, January 3, 2026

Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tennessee) targeted former President Joe Biden on social media this week, asserting that Donald Trump “doesn’t just talk tough. He is tough.” She questioned whether Biden had anything to say in response to the claim.

The senator shared a screenshot of a June 2020 tweet from Biden criticizing Trump’s approach to Venezuela, in which Biden stated Trump “talks tough” while admiring “thugs and dictators like Nicolas Maduro.”

Blackburn’s post followed President Donald Trump’s announcement that Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro had been captured by U.S. special forces on Saturday.

Blackburn has been a steady supporter of Trump’s actions, including in an interview where she praised his response to Venezuela. She stated: “We know Venezuela has been at the center of this narco-terrorist activity, and we are fully aware of what has transpired there.”

During her remarks, Blackburn emphasized that Trump is “determined to protect Americans, to protect American lives, and to end what we have seen as a war on so many communities with the impact of drugs.” She also noted that in Tennessee, law enforcement leaders continue to warn about cartel activity reaching deeper into U.S. communities. “As I talked to law enforcement and sheriffs,” she said, “one of the things they repeatedly mentioned to me is how aggressive the drug cartels and these drug organizations have been in establishing hubs in the United States so that they are able to push drugs into every community.”

Maduro faces federal racketeering and narcoterrorism charges following his capture.
