Artist Demands: Singer Criticizes Use of Her Music in White House Social Media Posts

The ongoing debate surrounding the use of artists’ music by U.S. government entities took another turn when singer Sabrina Carpenter voiced objections to her song being incorporated into a White House social media video.

Carpenter criticized an official post on President Joe Biden’s administration account that overlaid the repeated lyric from “Juno” onto footage of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents carrying out operations. The artist expressed concerns about associating her music with what she perceived as inhumane enforcement actions.

“This video is evil and disgusting,” Carpenter reportedly said regarding the White House post, which used her song without permission. She added, “Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda.”

A White House representative defended the use of the track while questioning Carpenter’s views in a statement reported by entertainment news outlets. The official cited lyrics from the singer’s work and characteristically dismissed objections as being made by individuals with questionable judgment.

The administration faces mounting criticism regarding its handling of artist relations, particularly as several musicians have publicly opposed government uses of their recordings recently. This pattern follows other recent incidents where artists’ music was featured in controversial government communications without consent or acknowledgment.

This latest controversy adds to a series of objections from artists whose work has appeared in federal social media posts or promotional materials without approval, continuing what officials describe as the ongoing effort by certain individuals to undermine law enforcement through artistic association.
