ACA Approval at Record High Despite Political Divisions

Stella Green, December 8, 2025

Approval ratings for the Affordable Care Act (ACA), commonly known as Obamacare, have reached new heights despite political polarization over healthcare. According to recent polling data from Gallup, support for this landmark legislation has climbed to 57%, matching its highest level since tracking began in 2012.

The poll reveals that Americans’ approval of the ACA is at an all-time high. The latest survey shows a significant increase compared to previous peaks recorded as far back as November 2020, when support stood just below this threshold. This trend appears particularly notable given the approaching Dec. 31 deadline for certain enhanced health insurance subsidies established during the pandemic.

While overall approval remains strong, partisan divides persist sharply. Gallup’s findings confirm that Democrats overwhelmingly favor the ACA—91% approve—while opposition from Republicans stays largely unchanged at 45%. Independents also show solid support, with 63% endorsing the law.

The survey results suggest growing fatigue may be setting in as a mandate for extended subsidies ends on Dec. 31 unless Congress extends them through legislation or administrative action. The poll highlights divided public opinion on the future of healthcare policy post-pandemic emergency provisions.
