Ezra Levin Condemns Democratic Leadership Over Government Shutdown Vote

Ezra Levin, founder of the No Kings protests against former President Donald Trump, criticized Democrats who supported ending the government shutdown in an interview Monday. “They have shown us time and time again this year that given the chance, they will cower,” Levin said, leading Indivisible, a nonprofit advocating for progressive policies.

During a CNN conversation with Jim Acosta, Levin stated, “Given the chance they will capitulate. If they can find plausible deniability, they will give in to the regime.” He highlighted that several Democrats, including Sens. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), Angus King (I-Maine), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), and Tim Kaine (D-Va.), voted with Republicans to fund the government despite no guarantees of extending subsidies under the Affordable Care Act.

Levin questioned whether Democrats possess the self-respect to accept leaders who refuse to lead, adding, “If we’re willing to take that for an answer, fine. We’ve got the Democratic Party we’re going to have.” He urged voters to consider a “better way,” noting the party’s current inability to meet challenges.

Levin emphasized that every Democrat candidate must be asked about their support for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), stating, “If you are, you don’t have my vote, you didn’t get my donation, you don’t get my support, you don’t get my attention.” Indivisible plans to launch its largest primary initiative to remove Democrats unwilling to fight back.
