Senate Pushes for Bipartisan Resolution to End Historic Government Shutdown

Sen. Jon Husted, R-Ohio, urged legislators to pass a bipartisan continuing resolution to fund the government and end the longest shutdown in U.S. history. He stated that lawmakers should prioritize ending the crisis, which has caused widespread hardship.

Husted emphasized that Democrats’ refusal to support funding measures without healthcare changes is hindering progress. He criticized the party for prioritizing political posturing over public welfare, noting that delays in essential services and paychecks are harming Americans. “If your flight gets delayed or canceled, or you don’t get a paycheck, you can thank the Democrats,” he said.

He called on Democrats to seize an opportunity to resolve the shutdown, citing bipartisan support for funding military, SNAP, and other agencies. Husted reiterated that the proposed legislation reflects prior agreements and does not introduce new policies. “It’s time to get this over,” he added, expressing hope for a resolution by Friday.

Husted also mentioned willingness to address healthcare spending but blamed Democrats for creating the stalemate. He warned that continued inaction would exacerbate suffering.
