NRA Warns of Gun Control Threats Following Democratic Gains

The National Rifle Association released a new ad on Thursday highlighting concerns over potential gun control measures following recent Democratic election victories. The advertisement focuses on three Democratic candidates who campaigned on banning specific firearms and accessories: Virginia Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger, New Jersey Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill, and New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.

The ad features the candidates alongside former Vice President Kamala Harris discussing restrictions on gun sales during their campaigns. It notes that Virginia Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin recently vetoed a Democratic-backed bill banning “assault weapons” like the AR-15.

Doug Hamlin, NRA CEO and executive vice president, stated the organization has warned of a “progressive insurgency in American politics,” accusing far-left Democrats of pursuing policies to “disarm law-abiding citizens.” He emphasized the NRA’s readiness for an upcoming battle ahead of midterm elections.

John Commerford, executive director of the NRA’s lobbying arm, added that recent elections underscored the fragility of freedoms, warning they are “only an election away from destruction.”
