Sen. Tim Scott Warns of Far-Left Takeover as Zohran Mamdani’s Victory Signals Democratic Party Shift

Stella Green, November 5, 2025

National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) Chair Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., has issued a stark warning to Republican donors about the growing influence of far-left ideologies within the Democratic Party, citing New York City Democrat Zohran Mamdani’s recent electoral success as evidence of a radical transformation.

Scott stated in a public statement that Mamdani’s rise marks “the confirmation that the far-left now controls the Democrat Party,” comparing his ideology to a movement that has shifted from marginal to dominant. “If the Squad was the spark, Zohran Mamdani is the fire,” Scott wrote, referring to the progressive House lawmakers led by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., who gained prominence during President Donald Trump’s administration.

In a letter addressed to donors, Scott declared that “socialism now controls the Democrat Party,” emphasizing Mamdani’s success as proof of radical dominance. He argued that the candidate’s rhetoric and policies are being emulated across Democratic primary races in 2026, with seven Senate candidates aligning with his platform.

The NRSC identified these figures as:
– Iowa Senate candidate Zach Wahls, accused of opposing police funding and supporting restrictions on youth transgender procedures.
– Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner, labeled “a communist” for advocating the abolition of ICE and defunding police.
– Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, criticized for endorsing “defunding the police” and promoting transgender identity education in schools.
– Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, alleged to have encouraged protests against ICE.
– North Carolina Senate candidate Roy Cooper, linked to Mamdani’s progressive agenda.
– Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, who praised Mamdani’s campaign as a “template for Democrats nationwide” and supported wealth redistribution.

Scott highlighted policy overlaps in six key Senate races—Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and Texas—as evidence of the Democratic Party’s ideological shift. He concluded that these contests demonstrate “the takeover is complete.”
