Carlson Unveils Plan for Third Party to Challenge U.S. Political Gridlock

Tucker Carlson has announced his intention to help form a new political party as part of a “good-faith effort” to address what he describes as America’s most critical economic challenges, marking a significant break from both major parties.

In an interview with the Columbia Journalism Review, the conservative commentator stated that he has abandoned the Republican Party following President Donald Trump’s handling of the Iran conflict. Carlson argued that neither the Democratic nor Republican parties adequately represent American citizens on issues he considers paramount.

“I’m going to help build a third party,” Carlson said. “There should be a good-faith effort to figure out what benefits the country.”

He claimed Republicans and Democrats have become effectively united on foreign policy and government spending, which he described as a sign of a one-party state masquerading as democracy. “On those questions, the parties are in lockstep solidarity with each other. That’s not a democracy. That’s a one-party state posing as a democracy, and it needs to be broken,” Carlson told the journal.

Carlson also highlighted declining living standards for middle-class Americans as evidence that the U.S. government has failed its citizens. He insisted that “the U.S. government should have, as its first priority, the welfare of its own people.”

The former Fox News host ruled out seeking elected office himself but jokingly suggested a mock presidential campaign on a “pro-patriarchy ticket” to discourage new supporters. Carlson’s decision to distance himself from the Republican Party accelerated after he criticized the Trump administration’s military actions against Iran, stating the party has placed foreign interests ahead of American citizens—a contradiction to Trump’s “America First” campaign promises.

Despite his split with the GOP, Carlson emphasized his goal extends beyond opposing Republicans alone. “We need options,” he said. “Or else let’s just give up and be ruled by the most unscrupulous people. And I’m just too young to accept that.”
