Harvard Professor Condemns Conservative Figures for Promoting Antisemitism, Targets Mayoral Candidate

Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz on Sunday accused conservative figures such as Tucker Carlson and Nick Fuentes of echoing past efforts to introduce antisemitism into the Republican Party. Dershowitz told Newsmax’s “Sunday Report” that the actions of these individuals mirror historical attempts by figures like Pat Buchanan, who he claimed sought to inject antisemitic rhetoric into the party. He referenced former conservative leader William Buckley, who criticized Buchanan for promoting antisemitism and effectively ended his influence within the Republican Party.

Dershowitz’s remarks followed criticism of Heritage Foundation Chair Kevin Roberts for defending Carlson after he interviewed Fuentes, a figure associated with extremist views. While Roberts initially opposed canceling Fuentes, he later distanced himself, condemning Fuentes’ “vicious antisemitic ideology” and Holocaust denial. Dershowitz accused Carlson of being “Pat Buchanan’s lapdog,” claiming he aims to transform the Republican Party into an antisemite-focused entity, which he called a threat to America.

The professor also criticized both extreme right-wing and far-left ideologies for sharing a “dangerous commonality”: hatred toward Jews. He cited historical examples, including Stalin and Hitler, and warned that modern-day extremists on the left now target Israel and Jewish communities. Dershowitz emphasized the importance of moderation in American politics, praising House Speaker Mike Johnson as a strong ally of Jewish people and Israel while urging him to prevent antisemitic figures from gaining Republican Party endorsement.

He further condemned New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, calling him a “terrible, terrible human being” who would harm New York and the Democratic Party. Dershowitz’s comments highlighted his broader criticism of individuals he deemed incompatible with American values, regardless of political affiliation.
