Americans See Democrats as Out of Touch Despite Trump’s Approval Drop

A recent poll reveals that 68% of U.S. adults believe the Democratic Party is “out of touch” with ordinary Americans, a higher percentage than those who view President Donald Trump or the Republican Party as disconnected. Despite efforts by Democrats to promote anti-Trump narratives and smears, the president’s approval rating has declined, according to the survey.

Trump’s approval stands at 41%, with 59% disapproving—his highest level of disapproval since January 2021. He continues to receive strong support from 86% of Republicans but faces widespread rejection from 95% of Democrats. Among independents, 69% disapprove of his performance, while 30% approve.

On key issues such as the economy, immigration, federal management, and foreign conflicts, Trump received mostly negative assessments. His lowest approval came on tariffs (33%) and running the federal government (36%), while his handling of Israel and Gaza earned a 46% approval rating. Nearly two-thirds (64%) of respondents said he has overstepped in expanding presidential powers.

Despite Trump’s dip in popularity, Democrats gained little advantage. In a hypothetical 2026 midterm scenario, 46% of registered voters said they would support a Democrat in their district, compared to 44% for a Republican—a statistical tie within the poll’s margin of error.

The survey, conducted among 2,725 U.S. adults from October 24–28, has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.9 percentage points for the full sample and plus or minus 2.2 percentage points for 2,203 registered voters. Eric Mack has been a writer and editor at Newsmax since 2016.
