Trump Touts G7 Summit as ‘Great Success’ on Iran Nuclear Deal

Stella Green, June 17, 2026

President Donald Trump declared his recent G7 summit trip a “great success” on Wednesday, highlighting international leaders’ interest in a new memorandum of understanding with Iran and the agreement’s positive impact on global financial markets and oil prices.

In a pre-departure Truth Social post, Trump emphasized that discussions at the summit centered on ensuring Iran never develops nuclear weapons and immediately reopening the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz. “The trip was a Great Success but, mostly what people wanted to talk about, is the fact that Iran will not have a Nuclear Weapon, and that the Strait of Hormuz will immediately be opened!” the president wrote.

Trump’s comments followed administration efforts to promote a newly negotiated memorandum of understanding with Tehran, which aims to establish future negotiations while maintaining pressure on the Iranian regime. A formal signing ceremony for the agreement is scheduled for later this week in Switzerland. The president has consistently stressed that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remains the central objective of the deal and warned that the United States would resume military action if Tehran fails to honor its commitments.

The Strait of Hormuz, which accounts for approximately one-fifth of the world’s oil supply, became a focal point during recent conflicts involving Iran. Market analysts report positive reactions as shipping traffic returns to normal and disruptions to global energy supplies appear avoided. Trump cited these developments as evidence that his administration’s approach is already yielding results. “Recent Stock Market numbers are through the roof because of the settlement and, likewise, Oil Prices are tumbling down!” he stated in a separate post.

Financial markets have indeed rallied recently with expectations that Middle East tensions will ease and energy prices remain stable. Oil prices have also declined from recent peaks as traders anticipate the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and reduced risks of supply disruptions. Additionally, Trump pointed to robust domestic economic indicators, noting record employment levels and a surge in investment commitments. “Great Numbers in all categories for the United States Economy with more people working today than have ever worked before,” he wrote, adding that over $19.1 trillion is being invested across U.S. factories and projects.
