Barry Moore Wins Alabama Senate GOP Runoff, Defeating Jared Hudson

Rep. Barry Moore secured victory in Alabama’s Republican Senate runoff on Tuesday, defeating former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson and claiming the GOP nomination for the seat vacated by Senator Tommy Tuberville.

Newsmax and Decision Desk HQ declared Moore the winner approximately two hours after polls closed. With about 51% of votes counted, Moore received 59.9%, while Hudson garnered 40.1%.

A three-term congressman from southeast Alabama and member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, Moore entered the runoff with President Donald Trump’s endorsement months before the primary campaign concluded. The president cited Moore’s conservative voting record and support for his agenda when announcing the backing.

The runoff followed a competitive Republican primary in May, during which Moore finished first but fell short of achieving a majority to avoid a second round of voting. Hudson, a political newcomer who founded an organization focused on combating human trafficking, advanced after narrowly defeating Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall in the second runoff spot.

Throughout the campaign, Moore emphasized his congressional experience and commitment to Trump’s America First agenda, including border security measures, military strength, and conservative judicial appointments. In contrast, Hudson positioned himself as an outsider advocating for leaders willing to challenge the political establishment.

The Senate seat became available after Tuberville opted to run for governor rather than seek re-election. Republicans are heavily favored to retain the seat in November, given Alabama’s status as one of the nation’s most reliably Republican states.

Moore will now advance to the general election on November 3, where he faces the winner of the Democratic runoff between Everett Wess and Dakarai Larriett.

Moore’s victory was closely monitored by national Republicans as another test of Trump’s influence in GOP primaries, with his endorsement providing a significant advantage in the runoff.
