Trump to Spotlight Economic and Energy Achievements in Texas Before March Primaries

Stella Green, February 27, 2026

White House deputy press secretary Anna Kelly stated that President Donald Trump will emphasize his economic policies and energy achievements during a scheduled visit to Texas on Friday, ahead of the state’s March 3 primaries — a trip occurring shortly after his State of the Union address and amid high-stakes Republican contests.

The president’s stop in Corpus Christi coincides with the final day of early voting and precedes the Texas primary where multiple key GOP races are unfolding. The visit is anticipated to spotlight Trump’s administration’s economic and energy strategies, which Kelly noted align with Texas’s role as a major energy producer.

During an interview on Friday morning with “Wake Up America,” Kelly declined to specify whether Trump would endorse candidates in the U.S. Senate Republican primary featuring Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas), Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, and Representative Wesley Hunt (R-Texas). She cited restrictions under the Hatch Act, a federal law that limits executive branch employees from engaging in partisan political activities during official duties.

“I’m a bit limited in what I can say from this position with the Hatch Act,” Kelly said when asked about potential endorsements.

“But I’ll say that the president is invested in having great Republicans across the country implementing his agenda,” she added.

None of the three Senate candidates has secured Trump’s endorsement, and all have been promoting their ties to the former president in a contentious race.

Kelly emphasized that Trump will highlight economic policies benefiting Texans and Americans nationwide, including tax cuts, reduced drug costs, and favorable trade agreements.

“Texans know better than anybody the importance of ‘drill, baby, drill,’” she said, referencing Texas’s status as a leading energy producer. “The president is incredibly proud of his agenda to unleash American energy, and it’s paying off.”

Kelly reported that energy production has surged under Trump’s leadership, with the oil industry thriving and natural gas output reaching record levels.

She stated that Trump will “tout all of his economic accomplishments with special focus on our energy industry” during his Texas speeches.

The president’s economic message follows his recent State of the Union address, in which he underscored his first year in office and achievements across multiple policy areas.

Kelly also outlined priorities Trump urged Congress to address, including measures to keep drug costs low, boost housing affordability, and enforce requirements that illegal aliens must speak English to obtain driver’s licenses — a policy she linked to “Delilah’s law” and public safety concerns.

On immigration and border security, issues critical in Texas, Kelly noted Trump’s contrast with Democrats.

“President Trump stands on the side of American citizens. He stands on the side of common sense,” she said, asserting that Democrats had not prioritized U.S. citizens during the State of the Union.

“Of course, he will continue to enact this overwhelmingly popular agenda of tax cuts, unleashing American energy, and deregulation,” Kelly added. “All of these things are proving to be a successful economic formula for Americans in Texas and across the country.”

The Texas primaries also include competitive GOP and Democrat contests for local and congressional seats, with Texans voting March 3 to select nominees who could influence the November general election.

Trump has visited Texas frequently during his presidency, and the state remains a pivotal battleground for Republican energy and economic messaging.
