Republican Leader Claims Democrats’ DHS Funding Blockage Targets ‘Mass Amnesty’

Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) stated on Monday that congressional Democrats are deliberately blocking funding for the Department of Homeland Security to facilitate “mass amnesty.”

Emmer added that Democrats have a broader objective than merely imposing a partial spending block against DHS.

“And guess what? It’ll cause mass amnesty. Literally,” Emmer said.

He linked the move to the open-border policies pursued by the Democratic Party under former President Joe Biden.

Emmer noted that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been fully funded through 2029, as per a law signed last July. However, he emphasized that recent efforts have targeted funding for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Coast Guard disaster relief—areas critical to public safety.

“These are things that the American people count on,” Emmer stated.

He also criticized Democrats for withdrawing support from a bipartisan bill negotiated by both parties to fund the Department of Homeland Security. The bill, sent to the Senate weeks ago, remains stalled there.

Separately, border czar Tom Homan defended federal immigration agents in a recent statement, rejecting claims of racial profiling and stating that agents act on reasonable suspicion. He also noted a surge in threats and assaults against officers, calling for enhanced protections.
