Antoni Praises Warsh’s “Consistent Rightness” for Fed Chairmanship

Heritage Foundation chief economist E.J. Antoni has strongly endorsed President Donald Trump’s nomination of Kevin Warsh to lead the Federal Reserve, emphasizing that Warsh’s most critical qualification is a track record of being “right—consistently.”

Antoni described Warsh’s resume as “quite impressive,” noting his academic background and experience at the central bank, including his distinction as the youngest governor of the Federal Reserve after being appointed by former President George W. Bush.

“The most impressive thing about him isn’t even where he went to school—it’s that he’s right. Consistently,” Antoni stated. He highlighted Warsh’s role during the 2008 global financial crisis, arguing that Warsh made the correct recommendations on interest rates and Federal Reserve balance sheet management—a stance ignored by the rest of the board at the time.

“One of his shining moments was back in the mortgage meltdown,” Antoni said. “Warsh made the right call on what the Fed should be doing with interest rates and its balance sheet.”

Antoni noted that Warsh is now advocating for similar policy shifts, urging lower interest rates and reduced Federal Reserve balance sheets. While he acknowledged the board has once again dismissed these recommendations, he expressed confidence in Warsh’s ability to implement his strategies if confirmed: “I expect Warsh to put those ideas into action if confirmed. I am a firm believer that he once again is correct.”

The nomination has drawn criticism from Democrats, including Senator Elizabeth Warren, who accused Trump of attempting to politicize the Federal Reserve and warned that a Trump-backed chair could enable the president to reward allies and punish opponents. Antoni dismissed Warren’s concerns, stating: “I don’t know why anyone would listen to, let alone believe, Elizabeth Warren.”
