Elon Musk’s $10 Million Gambit for GOP Electoral Dominance

Stella Green, January 28, 2026

Tech billionaire Elon Musk is poised to leverage his substantial financial resources and influential platform to bolster Republican prospects in the impending midterm elections. Musk, whose recent acrimonious split with former President Donald Trump occurred six months ago, has recently contributed $10 million to a Republican super PAC aimed at preserving House and Senate majorities.

The tech CEO has reconciled with Trump and has used his bully pulpit on X to call for Senate Republicans to pass the SAVE Act, which would prevent noncitizens from voting and restrict mail-in ballots. “America is toast if the radical left wins,” Musk wrote on X this month. “They will open the floodgates to illegal immigration and fraud. Won’t be America anymore.”

While the bill enjoys broad Republican support, all Democrats oppose it, and it lacks the Senate’s 60-vote threshold to bypass a filibuster. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-South Dakota) stated, “We have significant interest in it and I am supportive.”

Despite Republican appreciation for Musk’s alignment with their goals, some members recall his vocal opposition to the “Big Beautiful Bill” — a legislative package that nearly stalled its progress. Representative Blake Moore (R-Utah) described Musk as “a big voice” but noted he had been “really antagonistic” toward the Republican mega-bill. “If he’s willing to be accurate, yeah, then I totally want him on board,” Moore added.

Representative Carlos Gimenez (R-Florida) acknowledged that Republicans face projected seat losses in upcoming midterm elections and stated they would welcome Musk’s support: “We will seize every opportunity for assistance to counteract this historical trend.”

While some Republicans praised Musk’s efforts to streamline government operations and expressed interest in his campaign participation, lawmakers representing swing states appeared cautious. Representative Rob Bresnahan, Jr. (R-Pennsylvania) described his stance as “not really sure” and “impartial,” adding that district priorities would determine whether Musk’s assistance aligned with their mission.
