Minnesota Governor Walz’s ‘Nazi Stormtrooper’ Remark Sparks National Outcry Sentinel Update, January 26, 2026 As the cries from Immigration and Customs (ICE) protesters grow louder, it becomes increasingly evident that these demonstrations may mark the final gasps of a movement in decline. Last week, after an armed rioter was shot and killed by an ICE agent, Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz responded with a phone call to the White House. “I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning,” Walz said. “Minnesota has had it. This is sickening.” He demanded that “the President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.” The governor’s remarks prompted author and commentator Ryan Girdusky to offer advice in an open letter: “If Walz wanted ICE out, all he has to do is offer the White House a deal that they will comply with federal immigration law and comply with ICE detainers,” Girdusky wrote. “You’re a governor, not a king of a state. SCOTUS has ruled, states can’t make their own rules when it comes to immigration.” Walz dismissed the advice, escalating his criticism by comparing ICE agents to Nazi stormtroopers and children of criminal illegal aliens to Anne Frank. “Allow our children to go back to school,” Walz said Sunday. “We have got children in Minnesota hiding in their houses, afraid to go outside.” Red State reporter Jennifer Van Laar reported that the Minneapolis unrest is not grassroots but orchestrated on AstroTurf. Even California’s San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, a Democrat in a sanctuary state, condemned the tactics after anti-ICE protesters stormed his office and demanded a meeting. When the group was forcibly removed by police, Gloria stated: “These individuals chose to raid the front desk… bang on the doors… barricaded the doors, creating a public safety hazard.” He called the conduct “unacceptable.” Public awareness is growing that ICE agents legally enforce federal law in nearly every state, yet violence occurs only where local authorities actively oppose their presence. In most jurisdictions, ICE operations proceed without incident. British commentator Piers Morgan noted that while leftists may still protest loudly, the “woke” movement has effectively collapsed. Corporations like Anheuser-Busch discovered that embracing “woke” messaging eroded public trust—shifting from 9/11 tribute ads to Bud Light campaigns featuring gender-nonconforming imagery led to financial losses. As left-wing Democrats become more extreme in their rhetoric, November midterms appear increasingly favorable. Michael Dorstewitz is a retired lawyer and former U.S. Merchant Marine officer. Opinion
