Minnesota Governor Walz Accused of Inciting Anti-ICE Protests Amid Tax Fraud Scandal

Stella Green, January 26, 2026

State Representative Drew Roach, a Republican, accused Minnesota Governor Tim Walz of “incentivizing” anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement protesters to shift focus from alleged government fraud in the state.

Roach stated that Walz has “not helped the situation at all” and is worsening tensions by promoting anti-ICE rhetoric, which makes law enforcement’s work more difficult. He claimed the recent chaos surrounding ICE operations stems from deliberate efforts by Democratic leadership to divert attention from massive tax fraud involving billions of dollars.

“Just weeks ago, we were talking about $9 billion in stolen tax money and fraud,” Roach said. “Now, we’re talking about ICE in our streets.”

Roach cited reports suggesting Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan may have participated in Signal chats that promoted anti-ICE activism, along with other Democratic lawmakers allegedly encouraging protesters.

The unrest intensified following a weekend shooting linked to ICE-related activity. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem placed responsibility on local and state leaders, urging Governor Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey to “take a long, hard look in the mirror.”

Roach added that President Donald Trump criticized Minnesota’s leadership for what he described as “inciting insurrection.” He warned that continued defiance of federal law could lead to military involvement.

“Tim Walz needs to lead, calm things down, tell agitators to go home, and let law enforcement do their jobs,” Roach said. “Unfortunately, I don’t see him having the temperament to do that. He’s more interested in changing the narrative than fixing the problem.”

Roach indicated Republican lawmakers plan to introduce impeachment articles against Walz when the Legislature reconvenes on February 17, calling it a necessary step toward accountability for widespread fraud. “Minnesotans deserve to know where their money went.”
