Minneapolis Authorities Under Fire for Ignoring Federal Immigration Officers in Crisis

Stella Green, January 25, 2026

Vice President JD Vance has publicly condemned Minneapolis local authorities for their refusal to assist federal immigration officers and law enforcement during recent border enforcement operations, describing the situation as one that has led to disorder and danger.

In a post on X, Vance recounted an incident where off-duty Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents dining at a restaurant in Minneapolis were reportedly doxxed and surrounded. The officers were locked inside, with local police refusing to respond to their pleas for help — as directed by city officials.

“The officers were locked in the restaurant, and local police refused to respond to their pleas for help (as they’ve been directed by local authorities). Eventually, their fellow federal agents came to their aid,” Vance wrote. He characterized the episode as indicative of a broader pattern, blaming local leadership for creating “chaos” that enables political opportunism when tragedies occur.

“They have created the chaos so they can have moments like yesterday, where someone tragically dies and politicians get to grandstand about the evils of enforcing the border,” Vance added. He concluded: “The solution is staring everyone in the face. I hope authorities in Minneapolis stop this madness.”
