Minnesota Governor Walz’s Criticism of Federal Agents Sparks Safety Fears

Stella Green, January 24, 2026

State Sen. Michael Holmstrom, R-Minn., stated on a recent broadcast that he was “beyond tired” of Gov. Tim Walz’s “irresponsible rhetoric,” claiming it was designed to incite mobs and endanger officers and the public following Walz’s accusations that federal agents were responsible for a shooting in Minneapolis prior to an investigation concluding.

Holmstrom, who had not seen Walz’s social media post before being asked about it on air, described the governor’s comments as creating a dangerous environment. “This is the first time I’ve seen that,” he said. “I am beyond tired of Tim Walz and his irresponsible rhetoric that has been created specifically to gin up a mob and put officers and the public in danger.”

Walz had previously posted on X, stating: “Minnesota has had it. This is sickening. The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.”

Holmstrom criticized Walz for his language, saying the governor “is not doing this because he believes in that. He’s doing it because he’s a loser who has consistently proven his inability to lead this state.” He added that Walz’s remarks risked further violence by providing a “permission structure” for mobs to escalate tensions.

The senator noted that Walz’s comments came after a reported shooting in South Minneapolis, where a man was killed by federal agents. This incident follows the January 7 shooting of Renee Nicole Good, 37, by an ICE officer in Minneapolis.

Holmstrom emphasized the need for calm and time to investigate before blaming federal authorities, stating: “We need peace, we need calm, and we need time to conduct the investigation… Tim Walz immediately comes out and denounces ICE and says that they’re all bad, they’re all violent, they’re all untrained…”

The state senator concluded his remarks by reiterating his frustration with Walz’s approach: “I’m tired of it.”
